What is a Kidney?

In humans, the kidneys are two small organs located near the vertebral column at the small of the back. The left kidney lies a little higher than the right kidney. They are bean-shaped, about 4 in. (10 cm) long and about 21/2 in. (6.4 cm) wide.

The kidneys have a couple of different functions. The main purpose of the kidney is to separate urea, mineral salts, toxins, and other waste products from the blood. The kidneys also conserve water, salts, and electrolytes. At least one kidney must function properly for life to be maintained.

The main purpose of the kidneys is to filter and reprocess blood. It's an extremely complex process and cannot simply be likened to a strainer. Wastes and extra water are removed to become urine, which flows from the kidneys to the bladder to be excreted whenever we feel the need to urinate. But the normal proteins and cells of the bloodstream that we need are returned back to the blood. In this way, the kidneys regulate the body's levels of many substances, sometimes keeping them to a very narrow, normal range.

But the kidneys also are important for other reasons. The kidneys release three hormones: one that stimulates the bone marrow to produce red blood cells, another that helps regulate blood pressure, and the third is actually the active form of vitamin D, which helps maintain calcium levels.

Patients (with diabetes and high blood pressure) will have tests that check "kidney function." This is done to know how efficiently the kidneys are filtering and reabsorbing. Fortunately, a decline of 30 to 40 percent of kidney function is not a problem. It's when function declines to the 25 percent level that serious health problems arise.

So it makes sense to protect the kidneys as much as possible. Diabetes and high blood pressure are two of the most common conditions that severely impact proper, healthy kidney function. High sugar levels in diabetes directly damages the microscopic filtering cells of the kidneys while high blood pressure damages the microscopic blood vessels of the kidneys.

So if you are diabetic or have high blood pressure, make certain you are controlling the conditions with proper dietary changes, and taking medications as indicated. And as always, quit cigarettes and get plenty of exercise and good quality restful sleep.

What It Is“Meat glue” is scientifically known astransglutaminase, and its brand name is Activa.

Activa is manufactured by the Ajinomoto company, the same lovely folks who have brought us the pervasive neurotoxins aspartame and MSG (monosodium glutamate.) There is little debate within scientific circles as to the neurotoxic effects of these food additives (please see bottom of page for sources.) The jury’s still out about transglutaminase, but if you ask me, anyone willing to sell neurotoxins to the public can not and should not be trusted.

Transglutaminase (TG) is an enzyme that helps proteins bind permanently together through the formation of covalent bonds. The TG forms cross-linked, insoluble, and irreversible protein polymers.

Natural examples of these stable polymers are found in blood clots, our skin, and hair.

What’s happening chemically: protein-bound lysine + protein-bound glutamine (free amine + carboxamide.)

How It’s MadeMost TG is made from the cultivation of bacteria using the blood plasma (clotting factors) from cows and pigs. Some TG is made from cultivating bacteria using vegetable and plant extracts. Most TGs are mixed with other ingredients including gelatin and caseinate (milk derivative.)

The issue? Manufacturers don’t have to tell you which method they’re using, what type of animal plasma was used (cow, pig), or anything else that most of us would like to know more about. As with most things, the only way you can really know what you’re consuming is if you make it yourself.

Depending on how stringent a vegetarian you are, this may or may not ring some bells for you. Vegans, avoid this stuff like the plague. In addition to vegetarians and vegans, Judaism and pork products don’t go together, so make sure you’re buying kosher cuts. There is a special “kosher” meat glue made just for you.

Dangers And ConcernsThe FDA classifies the TG enzyme as GRAS or “generally recognized as safe,” and it’s also approved by the USDA. That said, the USDA approves the use of neurotoxins (MSG, aspartame, fluoride), pesticides and herbicides, and growth hormone and antibiotic-injected meats.

1. The Principle of Balance The Principle of Balance is based on the concept of yin and yang, the opposing energy forces from ancient Chinese and Japanese traditions. Everything in the world has some properties of yin and yang, but in varying proportions.

Yin energy is light, expansive, wet, soft, cold and more vegetal. Yang energy is heavy, contracting, dry, hard, hot and more animal.

Some foods, like sugar and alcohol, are examples of food that is way too expansive for your body. Your blood stream quickly absorbs sugar and produces energy, making you feel temporarily open and relaxed yet these foods are damaging because they are not balanced.

Other foods, like excessive and poor-quality salt and animal products, are more contracting and cause your cells to contract and lose fluids, making you feel tight and constricted.

2.    The Principle of Acid and Alkaline To maintain health, your blood must be slightly alkaline. The foods we eat and the lifestyle choices we make impact our body's ability to maintain that alkaline state. Foods can be alkaline, acidic or neutral in your body. Artificial sweeteners were designed to be sugar substitutes as a less fattening alternative. You find sugar substitutes in diet sodas, yogurt and such. These artificial sweetener additives mimic the flavor of sugar but with virtually no useful energy. There are five dangerous sugar substitutes that are approved for consumer use: saccharin, neotame, acesulfame potassium, aspartame, and sucralose. Of the five, sucralose and aspartame are the most pervasive and dangerous substitute found in products on store shelves today.

Sucralose

This relatively new additive is marketed under the name Splenda®. Sucralose is basically denatured sucrose. Its preparation involves chlorinating sucrose, chemically changing the structure of the sugar molecules by substituting three chlorine atoms for three hydroxyl groups.

Yes, you did read "chlorinating," adding "chlorine atoms." But isn't chlorine a known carcinogen, you ask? Why would the FDA allow toxic materials to be used in our food and beverages?

Yes, chlorine is a carcinogen. And to the other question, no one said just why the FDA approved it. You should know too that it was approved even with the pre-approval research revealed possible toxicity of the substance.

There have been no long-range studies of the effects of sucralose. The same thing happened with tobacco. As a result of not performing the required epidemiological research, it took years to track the dangerous effects of tobacco. It's unfortunate and confusing that the same mistake is repeated even with the initial negative indications and checks and balances that are now in place. If the FDA does not step in and make monitoring and research possible and necessary, then we can't readily learn the safety of such substances as sucralose. We don't even know if it is better for weight loss than sucrose.

Aspartame

This additive is sold under the names Equal® or NutraSweet®. There are thousands of everyday products that contain aspartame. To name a few, yogurt, sodas, pudding, tabletop sugar substitutes, chewing gum. For its approval we have to thank the Searle Company for falsifying reports, and unscrupulous attorneys for delaying legal proceedings. Once the statute of limitations ran out and the product was once again up for review, many discrepancies came to light between reported versus actual findings.

Consumers lodge complaints about NutraSweet®, to the tune of "80% of all complaints about food additives," but Betty Martini reported that the FDA has yet to move on any of them. In spite of this inaction by the FDA, there are indications that this "sweetener" is toxic. According to Ms. Martini, in a report from Flying Safety, an official United States Air Force publication, US Air Force pilots were warned not to consume Aspartame in any amounts at all. Why? "Aspartame has been investigated as a possible cause of brain tumors, mental retardation, birth defects, epilepsy, Parkinson's Disease, Fibromyalgia, and Diabetes." And the FDA has made no move to regulate this toxic substance.

How to Eliminate Toxins from Artificial Sweeteners

• Check your food labels at home and throw out everything that has on its label: Aspartame, Acesulfame Potassium (K), Saccharin or Sucralose Equal®, NutraSweet® or Splenda®
• Use natural sweeteners like agave nectar, xylitol, stevia or raw honey.
• Avoid products that are labeled "low calorie," "diet," "sugar free," or "no sugar added" since they all likely contain sugar additives.
• Drink purified water instead of diet drinks. Do NOT drink tap water!
• Ask your government representatives and the FDA to ban toxic artificial sweeteners.
• Perform regular Intestinal tract cleansing's. It will help to reduce the toxic effects of artificial sweeteners.
• Perform three consecutive liver cleanses to expel the toxins built up in your body.
